Action Track: Building Resilience

Support Pollinators

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 15 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Oceans

Clean up along Red River

Hiking along the Red Riiver from Fish Hatchery to Rio Grande National Rec area will collect all garbage following CDC recommendations

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Oceans

Join a Cleanup Effort

I will host or participate in a trash pickup at a local river or beach that follows the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Building Resilience

Research Benefits of Biodiversity

I will spend at least 41 minutes researching how biodiversity positively impacts our world and how the loss of biodiversity harms it.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate

Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits

I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option. If my utility does not offer one, I will purchase Renewable Energy Credits to match my usage.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

People

Connect While Social Distancing

I will connect with at least 1 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.

COMPLETED 0
DAILY ACTIONS

Forests

Advocate for Forest Protection

I will contact 5 congress people or representatives to advocate for public policy that protects forests and improves their ability to sequester carbon and nourish biodiversity.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Food

Support Red Willow Farm - https://redwillowfarm.org

While the pueblo is closed and I can no longer support with my purchases, I will make a donation direct to the farm. It is important to me to see the success of this program very much like the YMCA Farm Project in Kingston that supports education and food justice. The "Youth in Ag" program is important in teaching sustainability and good environmental practices as well as empowering youth.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Food

Reduce Animal Products

I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.

COMPLETED 0
DAILY ACTIONS

Fresh Water

Re-use grey water

I will re-use dishwater and grey water from sinks and shower to water plants outside while in New Mexico. Although the area received a lot of snow this year with rising temperatures and possible droughts I will try to keep things green in this neighborhood. We have had no rain or snow for 2 weeks now.

Get Involved in the Water Justice Movement

I will spend at least 21 minutes a day using the resources provided to learn about water justice and find out how I can get involved in local initiatives.

I really cannot believe how much water we use just to wash hands.  collecting this every day has made such a difference to the plants around our space.  I have started watering the gardens at our neighbors since they a are not here.

Do you have a grandparent who may be isolated?  My grandchildren sent drawings to their great-grandma and she talks about these gifts every time we speak to her.  I wish she could meet them someday
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

While shopping only every other week,  it has become easier to have vegetarian/vegan meals by stocking the fridge with lots of veggies.  Farmers markets are soon to be open again as essential.  Supplementing with dandelion greens foraged from outsidide

Still watering plants with grey water collected in sink from washing hands.  Had one little bit of rain the other night so reusing this water is helping the plants thrive.  This cuts down on wasted resources used to purify our water for irrigation.  It is fascinating to me how they use irrigation ditches  for the farming here.  Each has a shut off valve to stop the water from irrigating the different properties.  I need to research more about water rights here in New Mexico

Since watering plants with grey water from sinks and shower  they are much greener.  It has not rained here in 2 weeks and it is very dry.
