Climate
Look into the sustainability of renewal energy sources
After watching the Earth Day releases movie, Planet of the Humans, I need more information on what is truly sustainable energy. This is going to take some research which I will begin now.
Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
Bringing home unique souvenirs from trips you’ve enjoyed is meaningful, and giving people unique gifts from other places is fun. Seek souvenirs and gifts that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 120 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 2 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 60 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 4 hour(s) in my community helping people who are most at need right now, including elderly and immunocompromised people, people without childcare, and people whose jobs have been affected by social distancing measures.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Lisa Baltz 4/27/2020 11:39 AMRecently watched the Earth Day released documentary Planet of the Humans. I am blown away and would like to discuss with anyone else who has seen it. 🤔-
Lisa Baltz 4/30/2020 9:00 AMHi Christy, it’s on YouTube. -
Christy Habart 4/30/2020 7:55 AMWhere can I find this documentary? I want to watch! -
Denise Feltes 4/28/2020 8:47 AMVery depressing since I do not think people will be able to "...get a grip on our out-of-control human presence and consumption. Why is this not THE issue? Because that would be bad for profits, bad for business. Have we environmentalists fallen for illusions, “green” illusions, that are anything but green, because we’re scared that this is the end—and we’ve pinned all our hopes on biomass, wind turbines, and electric cars?" as quoted from Michael Moore's statement. How do we fight big business and billionaires?? -
Denise Feltes 4/27/2020 1:56 PMStill watching. Will continue tomorrow. But WOW I am overwhelmed so far! Will discuss tomorrow. Are you working tomorrow?

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Support PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
Lisa Baltz 4/23/2020 7:33 AMI recently watched an Audubon webinar on local pollinators and learned that in the fall I shouldn't cut down my dead flower stalks because bees will use many of them for shelter. Specifically bee balm and purple coneflower, which both are also wonderful for pollinators during their blooming season. In this case, the messy look works! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Lisa Baltz 4/21/2020 8:49 AMThe ability to connect with ZOOM is so helpful during this time. During our weekly library Knit In, it was comforting to talk to others who are working on projects and trying to figure out ways to find materials, sharing ideas and feelings. Seeing each other busy and creating and smiling makes me feel less alone. We can't be close but seeing each other's hands busy is reassuring and inspiring!! -
Lisa Baltz 4/20/2020 6:13 AMI'm still figuring out how this challenge works. I realized during my walk through the woods last week that I needed a bag to pick up garbage thrown here and there. From now on I will have one in my pocket for the ready! But hmmm....paper or plastic?-
Jennifer Ferriss 4/20/2020 6:41 AMHa! I would say the most important thing is to wear gloves and not what type of bag. I personally use plastic because of the wet stuff. I have been creative and use chip bags, post office bags, etc. since I don't have any grocery store bags.
