Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Research Benefits of Biodiversity
How can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?

    Jack Cherkes 's avatar
    Jack Cherkes 4/19/2020 7:07 PM
I can encourage biodiversity by my own actions by living sustainably.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Stay on the Ground
What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

    Jack Cherkes 's avatar
    Jack Cherkes 4/08/2020 11:15 AM
We had to go over the directions to get to the destination.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

    Jack Cherkes 's avatar
    Jack Cherkes 4/08/2020 11:14 AM
I can reduce carbon emissions by not using my car as much and instead using my bike or taking the pat bus.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Fresh Water Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?

    Jack Cherkes 's avatar
    Jack Cherkes 4/06/2020 9:34 AM
I can advocate for those who have been harmed by using a reusable water bottle daily and to tell other not stop using plastic bottles and to buy a reusable one.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Fresh Water Conserve Toilet Water
What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

    Jack Cherkes 's avatar
    Jack Cherkes 4/06/2020 9:34 AM
Some things that need to change for a more sustainable water future is people waging water. Some simple things to do is to turn water faucet off and in while brushing your teeth and to only flush toilet when necessary.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

    Jack Cherkes 's avatar
    Jack Cherkes 4/02/2020 10:10 AM
I would most likely use a cart and not use bags and then put the items in my car. I would then carry them in the house with my hands.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    People Volunteer in my Community
How does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?

    Jack Cherkes 's avatar
    Jack Cherkes 4/02/2020 10:09 AM
Volunteering enhances my community by showing myself that I can do more and by showing other that they can help the community but just need the motivation to do so.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

    Jack Cherkes 's avatar
    Jack Cherkes 4/02/2020 10:08 AM
I’m not sure how I will use my compost once it is ready but I can definitely notice the difference of throwing away garbage and compost now.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    People Keep My Community Clean
How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

    Jack Cherkes 's avatar
    Jack Cherkes 4/02/2020 10:07 AM
It connects me more to my community because it reassures myself that I care for the people around me and not just myself.
