The part that I'm struggling with is buying clothes during the quarantine because they come in multiple plastic bags. I am trying to be more thoughtful about what I purchase and if I really need to buy it right now.

Windy's actions
Climate
Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option. If my utility does not offer one, I will purchase Renewable Energy Credits to match my usage.
Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 60 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 1 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Use Muscle Power
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.

REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Windy Fleischaker 4/30/2020 8:16 AMI try to buy in bulk when possible so that I can either reuse the plastic bag or use paper bags instead. I steer clear of bagged vegetables and reuse my own bags. I normally don't get coffee lids but since I'm now walking my dogs when I stop for coffee, I have to so I don't spill. Luckily the tops that i"m getting are compostable and I am composting at a community collection site!

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy CreditsYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Windy Fleischaker 4/30/2020 8:12 AMI think they used to have something that would show how your energy use compares to others around you but I don't really see that option now. I'm going to do some research to see if there is a third party app or something that will track this. -
Windy Fleischaker 4/29/2020 6:37 AMSigned up for 100% wind sourced energy for my only utility that I pay for at my condo! There was a wait list for the solar/wind option, so I just went with wind. They don't really make it easy to compare your energy use with the blocks of energy that they are quoting a cost for but it should be an up-charge of $7 or under for me...I think. I had it at my last house but can't remember how m.uch it ended up going up -
Windy Fleischaker 4/26/2020 3:33 PMIt’s getting harder being home alone. Luckily I get to walk my dogs a lot! Went for a 2 hour walk and a 1.5 hour walk today!-
Louisa Lubiak 4/26/2020 4:01 PMHang in there Windy, you're lucky to have your dogs to keep you company. :-)
