Action Track: Earth Day Together!
Earth Day Action: Share Eco Tips
Through social media or on the Earth Day Ecochallenge feed, I will share my favorite environmentally friendly habit with my friends, even if it’s not an Earth Day action.
Oceans
Learn about Our Oceans
I will spend at least 120 minutes learning about how our oceans support life on Earth by producing oxygen, regulating climate, and providing habitat, food, and jobs.
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Forests
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation.
Fresh Water
Dishwasher Efficiency
I will scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher and only run the dishwasher when it’s full.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect Local, Support Local
We encourage teammates to connect to other local green organizations (including each other) and practice supporting local businesses at least once a week. Re-share a post, order curbside, make a donation to your favorite non-profit, or find a local business to make a purchase from! Let’s keep making St. Louis a greener, healthier, and more sustainable place to live, work, and learn! Have other or more specific actions to add to the Connect Local, Support Local Building Resilience Challenge please email Fbrandt@mobot.org.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support A Sharing Economy
To reduce my consumption and waste and support my community, I will create or support a sharing economy with family, friends, and neighbors.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 15 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Joyce Gorrell 4/30/2020 2:55 PMLearned about ocean health and conservation by watching the Netflix documentary Chasing Coral. I highly rec this film as well. Gorgeous visuals paired with the heart wrenching reality of ocean creature and habitat loss and the attempts to slow and save the coral reefs. https://www.chasingcoral.com/ -
Joyce Gorrell 4/29/2020 12:52 PMLast night I watched the documentary Fed Up. I highly recommend it. It spoke to legacy of sugar added to processed foods which has led to outrageous numbers for obesity and diabetes in our country specifically for children. It's a huge health crisis. This was my food sovereignty watch and encouraged me to order veggies ASAP from my local farmers market. #scaredstraight

Joyce Gorrell 4/30/2020 2:51 PMHi Jill, I watched it on Amazon Prime for free but included ads. Looks like it's $3.99 to rent. -
Jill Jonas 4/30/2020 2:43 PMDid you watch it from the website or through a service like Netflix? I searched for it this week, but didn't find it. Thanks for sharing. -

Joyce Gorrell 4/19/2020 11:21 AMI "Connect Local, Support Local" by using the social media platforms available to me to share colleagues and friends resources, action items, and more on a daily basis if possible. From how to safely acquire compost for home gardening to locally made face masks - and attending a virtual crafty hour to where to purchase / support local farm veggies. I really enjoy the appreciative responses as well. That's my reward. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Joyce Gorrell 4/15/2020 4:19 PMI for one feel like I'm talking with friends and family WAY MORE than with a shelter in place order. Some days it can be exhausting but most days it really helps with my mental health. I have needed to create some boundaries especially with virtual chats where I will be visible! -
Joyce Gorrell 4/04/2020 6:38 PMSeeking good documentary recs on the topics of food sovereignty and our oceans. Thanks! -
