Jonna's actions
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Fresh Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
People
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will host or participate in a beach, highway, river, or other cleanup effort in my community that follows the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Action Track: Earth Day Together!
Earth Day Action: Share Eco Tips
Through social media or on the Earth Day Ecochallenge feed, I will share my favorite environmentally friendly habit with my friends, even if it’s not an Earth Day action.
Wildlife
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 60 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
People
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 15 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Join a Cleanup EffortHow does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?
Jonna Korpi 4/27/2020 6:31 AMCommunity cleanups remind me that other people care -- it's a great source of energy and rejuvenation. Even while social distancing, it was great to see my neighbors out cleaning up and spending time out with their families.-
Sofia Fick 4/28/2020 1:09 PMHey Jonna!
I'm Sofia, and I'm the U of M Department of Sustainability intern this semester! As earth month and the eco challenge wrap up, I'm reaching out to some of the team members who have been extremely active throughout the challenge, in hopes of writing a little blog post for the Institute on the Environment about the participants! It would be amazing to start a little email exchange with you, to chat about who you are, why you've been so active, and what the eco challenge has brought to your life this month! Other topics of discussion are welcomed, of course. My email is fick0054@umn.edu. If you'd like to contact me, that's great! If not, and you'd prefer I contact you, I can do that! Just reply to this comment with your email. If you don't want to period, that's totally okay as well! Keep me posted, Both the earth and I are proud of your hard work this month:)

The Mayor announced a city-wide, social-distanced, clean up effort for us all to tend our own patch of ground, whether that be in front of our residence, on our block, or across the neighborhood. AND you can win prizes! Visit https://duluthmn.gov/kdc and post to social media using #KeepDuluthClean -
