REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Volunteer in my CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Ella McGrail 4/30/2020 1:03 PMMy local food pantry (Gather in Portsmouth NH) Has an amazing food recovery program. They rescue tons of food from local businesses and farms that would've been wasted and give them to people in need. What they aren't able to give away they compost. The best environmental solutions are the ones that also address social problems, and hunger is a more important issue to address than ever in this time of crisis. I've been lucky to volunteer with them this spring. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Earth Day Together! Earth Day Action: Write a Love Letter, Poem, or Song to EarthWhat are you grateful for about our planet? Share what you created or your general thoughts of love and gratitude with everyone else!
Ella McGrail 4/29/2020 3:27 PMHere's the earth poem I wrote:
Remind Me
Grandmother Sea
Let me rest as the waves exhale
Wrap me in the scent of salt and life
Remind me I am a wild thing
Bark and Branch
Bower me in green with a carpet of herbs
Press a mossy cheek against my footsteps
Remind me I am a wild thing
Air, quick and darting
Fresh from singing on mountain ridges
and ruffling animal pelts
Run your fingers through my hair
Remind me I am a wild thing
Blackberry and chive
slice open your parcels; sweet and sharp
spill them on my tongue
A taste so alive my ears prick
Remind me I am a wild thing
City streets,
with light and voices;
shrieking metal and storied stone
green bursting from earthen squares
Remind me I am a wild thing
And find me,
When I am wandering from you
return me to myself;
Remind me I am a wild thing
or nothing at all

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Research a Wild AnimalWhat interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?
Ella McGrail 4/27/2020 3:02 PMI had no idea New England cottontail rabbits were endangered, or that this rabbit and many other creatures require young forests with lots of new trees and brushes to thrive. My mom and I are going to plant some bushes and young trees at the edge of our backyard to help grow rabbit habitat. -

Ella McGrail 4/26/2020 11:49 AMI've been taking only the most direct routes to get from place to place and driving less than I have in years--one positive aspect of social distancing!
