Action Track: Building Resilience

Research Local Climate Issues

I will spend at least 10 minute(s) a day researching climate issues or climate solutions in my local area and share with others through my team feed, social media, or conversations with my peers.

Action Track: Building Resilience

Green Outreach

I will virtually continue my (normally live) Green education and outreach work, to engage audiences in enviro-health awareness, even while we are so focused on public/economic health issues.

Weekly Meal Planning

I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 2 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.

Spend Time Outside

I will replace 23 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.

Connect While Social Distancing

I will connect with at least 2 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

While doing the enviro-communications work I (typically, and LOVE to) do at my dining room table, appreciating the River Birch tree out one window and the dogwoods out another, I have to remind myself why I am seeing these lovely views while working. Because if I were not here, in ONE place, I'd be contributing to risk of life for countless others, plus my family and me. Which is not going to change anytime soon.

This is the last day of Earth Day EcoChallenge, but not the last of the Big Time Out for all of human kind (sic). While we are pledging and reaching out and planning and learning in this Green space, what are we learning as a species overall?

MANY really good questions circulating, good discussions, and good work continuing. Much more needed.

I appreciate this opportunity to join with my St. Louis Green Peeps, now and going FORWARD.

I couldn't log in for some number of days. Was not getting the right login, password. So many PLATFORMS to deal with right now!  On actual calendar Earth Day, I dealt with FIVE virtual communication platforms: Zoom, Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams, Blue Jeans (really!) and one I can't recall the name of, to do a live interview on our STL Public Radio station (had to revert to Zoom because my browser couldn't support good enough audio quality with whatever that one was.

I appreciate the tech that makes our ongoing connectivity possible - from the non-crashing capacity of the amazing internet to the super-secure, updated savvy my woodworker husband maintains in our home. And I so look forward to a time when my  "password" can again be something like "Hi, I'm Jean Ponzi - thank you so much for having me."

To shop or not to shop? I qualify for supermarket for 6-7 a.m. Senior Hour. Last shopped this way once, on 3/19/20. Running low on perishable and good stuff, like last bottle of Pinot Noir!

Debated with myself for over a week. Husband said better to choose my own products vs. not know who handled them. We don't do much "ordering online" anyway. I leaned toward my super-shopper capacity, knowing exactly what items and brands I want, knowing what I could substitute for equally good (and tasty) food planning - and toward doing it myself, vs. asking for help. Was set to charge out 6 a.m. today, list organized by physical route through the store.

Watching PBS Newshour last night, so many signs "STAY HOME" on screens, from Gov. Cuomo's briefing desk to warning painted on 4-story building in NYC. Finally set the question to rest. Said to my mate: I am not going into a store. Will diversify my shopping to use two small local markets, ask for help with items if I really do need 'em from supermarket or Trader Joe's.

Eco-challenge met: I am part of humankind, we need to rely on one another to live by Earth's rules. Right now, they are blaring: STAY AT HOME, HELP EACH OTHER. Limits give you Tough Love. Thank you, Limits.
