    Wildlife Leave No Trace
Educator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?

Since working in the stormwater unit I feel really strongly against littering right now. I think it is because it is something so preventable but yet humans feel the need to just throw things on the street.

I can't understand why people continue to litter. When I was a kid in the 1970s I thought the crying Indian commercial would make people stop littering. Sadly, it didn't.  {:-(

    People Connect While Social Distancing
How does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?

    Gabryella Pulsinelli's avatar
    Gabryella Pulsinelli 4/28/2020 6:57 AM
I am extrovert by nature and not being able to see people in person has been really hard for me. But it allows me to connect with people who I love the most and still get emotional support from them. It also allows for me to be there for others if I can not be there in person. We are social beings and we need to be there for each other in this time of need.

Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

This quote by Rachel Carlson I love so much as the outdoors is such a huge mood booster. During this time being able to go outside and embrace nature when I can’t go to the park is so important.

I find myself trying to limit my electricity use in my house and try to limit my carbon footprint in my house. Also trying to keep my heat low if I need and just have a sweatshirt on or a blanket. However it is so easy to be lazy and not move as the state of the world but I am trying to just go out on walks.

Food Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?

I watched a documentary about a Indian tribe called Tolowa Dee-Ni' in California about food sovereignty about fishing off the coast. It was interesting to see how food sovereignty ties in the rights of the land and practices going on for many years, They show that they treat the ocean with such care and only take what they need and leave the strong adults and babies to continue to grow. IT shows the current fishing practices and other practices we do are killing the oceans and we need to change the fishing world.

Why is it important to take care of pollinators?

Without them we literally will have no food or flowers or anything. They help keep us alive.

    Climate Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

    Gabryella Pulsinelli's avatar
    Gabryella Pulsinelli 4/14/2020 7:22 AM
One of the ways I am trying to limit my carbon emissions and I am trying to use the least amount of electricity I can.Such as not turning on my lights if it is light outside or turning off my heat.

I am renovating my house right now so I am trying to go as efficient as possible as well.

Higher standards of living are very often dependent on moving our environmental costs elsewhere. What are some specific ways in which the environmental impacts of your own lifestyle might be shifted elsewhere?

So I know way to much about delocalization and this topic of how my actions affect people across the topic. Everything I do turning on my lights, using water, down to what I eat and even typing on my computer has a consequence. However, I do not think about it as I do not see the consequences across the globe. So I have to learn how to live sustainable I do not damage others.
