Joan's actions

Wildlife

Support Pollinators

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 20 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.

ONE-TIME ACTION

Forests

Explore My Area

I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.

Advocate For More Packaging Options

Plastic packaging can clog our water ways and the stomachs of sea creatures. I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.

Local Climate Issues

I will spend at least 15 minute(s) a day researching climate issues or climate solutions in my local area and share with others through my team feed, social media, or conversations with my peers.

Use Muscle Power

I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Oceans Support Organic Growing Methods
It is often said that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” What is your response to that statement?

To try and feed my family with only organic/non gmo food and learn to grow it as much as I am able. Maybe my children will too. And hopefully I can influence others. But I’m focusing on my family.

Today, I gave an Earth Day presentation by ZOOM connecting climate change with Lessons from Covid-19.  This year's theme is Climate Action, so spending time researching and sharing data about it worked well.

Your presentation was great!  The kids poems were inspiring as well.  I'm becoming so aware of connection of this pandemic and climate.  What the future portends is truly up to us now.  Thanks for your great work Joan!

This is not an easy discussion given your family. I really miss you Joan and was happy to hear Sue had connected with you.  Hang in there - you are one of my most respected leaders and teachers in these times.  I count on you and if there is some way I can help, please just reach out!  Events today are so shocking!!  We won't get to go back - so paving the way forward is huge!  Bless you dear friend.  I want a dance & potluck gathering when we can in our NCW area!  To your beautiful smiling face - cyber hugs for now.
