  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Forests Forest-Friendly Foods
How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

    Tara Rudd's avatar
    Tara Rudd 4/30/2020 8:30 PM
It was difficult to remove coffee, but I do not use palm oil in my diet. I had to switch to tea instead of coffee which was not that difficult of a switch for me.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Research Benefits of Biodiversity
How can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?

    Tara Rudd's avatar
    Tara Rudd 4/29/2020 8:15 PM
I am mindful of nonnative plant species and remove them when appropriate. I do not interfere with wild animals, and i do not touch nests when i see them. I always walk on paths and try not to disrupt natural plant growth.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Tara Rudd's avatar
    Tara Rudd 4/29/2020 8:10 PM
Driving in a car does not allow me to connect to my community or environment. By biking I get to better enjoy the fresh air and get exercise which releases endorphins.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Local Climate Issues
In what ways is your local community resilient to shock events like we’ve experienced recently? How could you help it become more resilient?

    Tara Rudd's avatar
    Tara Rudd 4/29/2020 8:08 PM
My community is not very resilient to shock events. The local community could become more resilient if they had better planning and listened to the scientists and healthcare workers about what is best for the community.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Leave No Trace
Educator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?

    Tara Rudd's avatar
    Tara Rudd 4/28/2020 3:44 PM
I am drawn to ecological problems in the marine environment. I always pick up trash when i see it and i am always hyper aware of my impact on the ocean, especially because i am a marine science major.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

    Tara Rudd's avatar
    Tara Rudd 4/28/2020 3:42 PM
Most grocery stores nowadays usually have reusable bags available at checkout, if i do not remember to bring my bags i will purchase a new one or i will take out my items using a cart or my hands if i only bought a few items. I always keep my reusable bags in my car so that i do not forget them when i go into the store.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Advocate For More Food Options
What efforts would help food insecure regions have access to local, seasonal foods?

    Tara Rudd's avatar
    Tara Rudd 4/28/2020 3:37 PM
The production of sustainable and locally grown foods is essential for helping food insecure regions. Providing education on that specific areas climate and providing the resources to grow certain foods within those environmental conditions would also help food insecure regions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Oceans Smart Seafood Choices
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

    Tara Rudd's avatar
    Tara Rudd 4/28/2020 3:21 PM
I do not eat seafood, so my diet choices do fall within these guidelines. I refuse to eat seafood because of the major impacts of overfishing, in terms of destroying the environment through trawling, or overfishing specific species of fish and dwindling their populations.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Tara Rudd's avatar
    Tara Rudd 4/15/2020 8:49 PM
It empowers me to make better decisions about my food waste. Knowing the difference between these terms is essential for decreasing the extent of my food waste and putting me at ease for using products that many people would mistakenly label as spoiled. If everyone took the time to learn these terms, hopefully there would be less waste in the world.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Support Pollinators
Why is it important to take care of pollinators?

    Tara Rudd's avatar
    Tara Rudd 4/15/2020 8:46 PM
It is important to take care of pollinators because we rely on them to sustain the ecosystems and habitats that we rely on for sustenance. Pollination is necessary for plants to reproduce so if we did not have pollinators we would probably be in famine.
