Create Homemade Face Covering to Help Prevent the Spread of Coronavirus

The CDC now recommends wearing a cloth face covering (such as a homemade mask or scarf) when you’re in public places where it’s difficult to maintain social distancing. These are places where there are usually more people — for example, at pharmacies and grocery stores. Now's your time to get creative while also doing social good and supporting public health. Breathable fabric like cotton, silk, or linen is recommended. Repurpose an old T-shirt, bandana, pillowcase, handkerchief, or scarf. You can sew the fabric into a mask, tie it around your face, or fold it and use hair ties for ear loops. Share your final product on your favorite social channels to inspire friends and family to do the same.

I was aware blue-fin tuna was becoming scarce, however I didn't realize Atlantic populations of halibut and yellow-tail flounder have also been significantly depleted. Next time I go out for sushi, I will try to look for Albacore Tuna Belly and Sablefish which are two more sustainable alternatives.

Interesting fact for the day "The Przewalski's horse is the only truly wild horse whose ancestors were never domesticated. Ironically, this stocky, sturdy animal exists today only in captivity. The last wild Przewalski's horse was seen in Mongolia in 1968."

Over the past few years I have tried to become more aware of where our food comes from and how our food purchasing habits effect the environment. One of the ways we try to make a helpful impact is by purchasing local produce when we can, and ordering biweekly from a company called Imperfect produce. By ordering our produce from Imperfect, we help save good food that would otherwise go to waste, since it does not live up to grocery store beauty standards or was produced in surplus. Here's me with my "ugly" onion.

Hey San Diego Team! One of my favorite ways to help the earth is by ordering “ugly” or excess food and produce (which would have otherwise gone to waste) through Imperfect Foods. So far, by shopping with Imperfect Foods, I have saved approximately 331 lbs of food, 13240 Gallons of water, and 1129 lbs of CO2. If you’re interested in reducing your footprint while also having amazing groceries delivered to your door check out their website at imperfectfoods.com.
