it's kind of odd but I used to throw away batteries and other electronics when they no longer had use. Now I gather them and wait until I can dispose of them properly instead of throwing them in the garbage
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Earth Day Together! Earth Day Action: Research and Support Local Organizations
Why is it important to support local organizations and businesses? How does it help to build a more resilient community?

We should always support local businesses especially during these times when the economy is hurting and consumer purchases are low. these small business actually play a major role in our communities and those people need us to be able to provide for themselves

My roommates actually questioned me about not running the dishwasher as soon as the dishes are done. I'm glad my actions are being noticed

I can live by examples, others tend to mimic what they see. especially if they see it as being beneficial or positive

Without pollinators we basically would not have any produce.

Even though I'm a little late starting the challenge, I dedicated time aside to do these challenges/tasks in bulk so I can get the same or similar experience my teammates got. So far I find the ecochallenge to be helpful and eye opening. These are all simple tasks we can all do in our day to day lives even after the challenge is over and it will greatly impact our planet in a positive way. I hope I can maintain these habits afterward, its a good feeling being able to help the earth.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

    jeron starks 4/26/2020 7:19 PM
We can run the dishwasher only when it is full and not take 20 minute showers. these are both unnecessary things we do.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Leave No Trace
Educator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?

    jeron starks 4/26/2020 7:17 PM
I would say I need to work on my contribution to the environment. I do recycle but there are other ways I can help. instead of doing the basics I would like to be more involved in playing my part.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Local Climate Issues
In what ways is your local community resilient to shock events like we’ve experienced recently? How could you help it become more resilient?

    jeron starks's avatar
    jeron starks 4/26/2020 7:04 PM
I would not necessarily say my community is resilient to shock events but we do have resources still available to us. Which is more than some people can say for themselves. Our local essential stores are still open and well supplied. We have health care available to us not too far away as well. I can help my community become more resilient by actually finding out what other people need or are not satisfied with, I know my family and I are fine but that does not mean everyone in my community feels the same.  By knowing what they may need or want, would better equid me to help them become more resilient.

By using a reusable water bottle I was able to cut done on the amount of plastic water bottles I threw in the garbage. I tend to drink a lot of water throughout the day and this option is way more environmentally friendly and also makes me get up to walk around. I did not see any negatives by doing this and is something I can see myself doing long term
