hansen's actions
Wildlife
Learn about Native Plants
I will research native plants at least once per week.
Forests
Explore Nature
I will take time out of my day to safely explore my surroundings while maintaining social distancing.
Food
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Climate
Use Muscle Power
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
People
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 5 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
People
Support a local business
I will either buy a gift card, write a review, order takeout/delivery, or ask how to help a local business.
Wildlife
Live in harmony
I will learn how to live in harmony with a wild species in Santa Barbara County and beyond.

REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
hansen streeter 4/15/2020 1:19 PMI use a lot of packaging for food and items. I should buy products that are more sustainable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?
hansen streeter 4/15/2020 1:18 PMWe could bring the awareness to this topic and really stress howl big of an issue it is. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
hansen streeter 4/15/2020 1:17 PMI have noticed that each time i empty the compost, there was more last time. This tells me that it is being decomposed and absorbed into other organisms. Once our compost is ready,m we plan to use it to fertilize our plants on our property. -
hansen streeter 4/08/2020 11:25 AMI took a walk around my neighborhood and enjoyed the nature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
hansen streeter 4/08/2020 11:20 AMWhen connecting with others, it makes me feel cared for. Additionally, I can make them feel the same way if I pay attention and help them verbally. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
hansen streeter 4/07/2020 10:02 PMI notice when in the car, I am less attentive to my surroundings. On the other hand, transporting using muscle power gives me more time to observe and enjoy the trip. -
hansen streeter 4/07/2020 9:58 PMtoday with my dad. we. were feeling stir crazy, so we decided to embark on a journey. In the rain, we biked to a hidden swing that he used to take me to when I was way younger. It brought back a lot of fun memories. Then we finished the trip with a hot chocolate and tea from a local business. I am glad I could. get out of the house and spend quality time with my father. -
hansen streeter 4/06/2020 12:20 PMI just fed an abandoned cat who has been coming to our house lately. I thought that it might be suffering and hungry, so I tried to fulfill its need.
