Action Track: Earth Day Together!
Earth Day Action: Share Eco Tips
Through social media or on the Earth Day Ecochallenge feed, I will share my favorite environmentally friendly habit with my friends, even if it’s not an Earth Day action.
People
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 6 hour(s) in my community helping people who are most at need right now, including elderly and immunocompromised people, people without childcare, and people whose jobs have been affected by social distancing measures.
Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Forests
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 60 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
People
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 2 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Get Involved in the Water Justice Movement
I will spend at least 60 minutes a day using the resources provided to learn about water justice and find out how I can get involved in local initiatives.
Oceans
Learn about Our Oceans
I will spend at least 60 minutes learning about how our oceans support life on Earth by producing oxygen, regulating climate, and providing habitat, food, and jobs.
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 6 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Wildlife
Research Benefits of Biodiversity
I will spend at least 60 minutes researching how biodiversity positively impacts our world and how the loss of biodiversity harms it.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Fresh Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Climate
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 10 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Earth Day Together! Earth Day Action: Share Eco TipsWhat environmentally friendly habit have you most recently implemented? How do you ensure that you are successful in creating or changing a habit?
Cherry Vercher 4/25/2020 8:54 PMMy eco friendly habbit is taking reusable bags to the store. I told my friend about these bags how sturdy they are and even though their not that big they hold alot compared to the plastic bags that normally break it saves me money and time and is good for the planet and now I have less trash to t hrow out -
Cherry Vercher 4/22/2020 8:49 PMI learned about Oceans Greens from a article I read on Oceanpreneur website explaining how these Greens are a important source for food and that people have been using Algae and Sea Plants preferably in the Asian Communities to cook sushi, seaweed, sea grapes etc. Now these plants are being introduced to our markets in the most recent years especially in the Asian supermarkets the population is growing rapidly and now we are depending on our Oceans more then ever for survival for a alternative nutritious food source here is a book I bought called Ocean Greens to keep my studies up . -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Cherry Vercher 4/21/2020 8:37 PMBy creating Work Groups like the British Communties did. And start them in your communties to educate people on food safety/inspection/regulations. While saving the
economy on Energy/Transportation. Grow your own foods sustainably.
Buy from your local farmers and fishery's. Stop buying from big corporations. Make your own choice on who you want to buy your food from. Provide a Fresh Water System to people who most need it to survive like Native Americans and Farmers etc. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Cherry Vercher 4/19/2020 5:54 PMI just walked around my neighborhood for 1 hour following the CDC Guide Lines. I didn't know for sure if any parks in my community were open because the shutdown here in Vegas has gotten worse. And I didn't want to take any chances as I have diabetes and some other health issues I choose not to voice about. I got some good photo's of nature of my front yard photoshop of course. I'm including them in this post too many cars and houses were in the way so I just took some Landscape photo's of my front yard here is my upload of the nature shots. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Volunteer in my CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Cherry Vercher 4/17/2020 8:53 PMBy volunteering for my community helps me get to no people in my area;and what type of problems we may face. And to be of assistance the best way I know how.I phone banked for Susie Lee Congresswoman of Nevada to touch based with my neighbors. And make sure they were safe. An also provide them with helpful resources pointing them in the right direction. As well as build goodwill within the community. -
Cherry Vercher 4/15/2020 9:22 PMWatched video on Water Justice by David Atten Borough New Global Deal explaining how we need this deal to protect our ocean's.And if a change is made we will have Fish Stock's recovered and fishing Sustainable will feed more people. I learn that huge so sum of public money is being distributed to keep damage and destructive fishing activities to go on. World Trade Organization/Government Subsidies keep letting fishing boater' s fish even when there is too few fish left for fishing to be profitable. This is creating tensions between local fishermen and nations. If we invest in local coastal communities this will be one of the ways to help save the destruction of our oceans. -
Cherry Vercher 4/13/2020 9:40 PMJust watch a Food Sovereignty video from The Main Event from policy makers discussing about who gets to tell you who you can buy your food from; also about food regulations helping small farmers out so they can get their food regulated and inspected especially on meat/poultry/milk etc. And because of this their having trouble selling their food to locals. States officials are trying hard to pass a Food Sovereignty bill that would allow them to do this. -
Cherry Vercher 4/09/2020 9:58 PMWatch a Documentary on Food Sovereignty called Voices Of Transition. I Learn by supporting local farms, building plants and growing your own fruits and vegetables can save on energy,transportation/transport and helps the economy. I also learn that their are more than 1100 transition town initiatives in 43 countries preparing their communities to face future shocks. The British communities have started something called Energy Work Groups and also created a Energy Plant with workshops and events showcasing goods and services that teach you all about growing and saving energy organically and sustainable.
