Why is it important that we learn about environmental advocacy in our own community?

The local environment / community is the easiest and "cleanest" to get involved in. It's here that we can make an impact and educate people
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Beyond carbon sequestration, what other benefits do forests offer you personally?

habitat for wildlife; places for hiking; thermo-regulation
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

luckily this doesn't happen very often; I have reusable bags in my car, and often carry a backpack. If I do end up w/o reusable bags, I try to carry things in my hands, and if that doesn't work, then I do accept disposable bags, but use them as trash bags (I don't but trash bags separately)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    People Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

spending time indoors takes time away to realize the wonders that nature provides. The less we learn, the less we love, the less likely we are to protect it
