Did you see the news about Spain spraying bleach on a beach because of COVID19? I can't believe anyone could be that STUPID. Wait, yes I can because we've been doing incredibly stupid things to this planet for decades.

Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

Back in the early 80's I changed the way I run errands--making one circle trip usually after work. Why did I change? Because gas prices topped $1 a gallon! Yeah, that was a big deal back then. I did it for economic reasons then but soon realized the environmental benefit as well. I just don't have the means to make large scale changes like solar or wind energy home improvements so I plod along making small changes where I can.

Small changes really add up!  Making that change years ago has saved you countless miles and gallons of gas--and the emissions that come with them.
And motivation only matters sometime--you did it to save money but still saved the emissions.  We have people at the med center that aren't "green" but they want to save money, so we all win!!

I am joining a local composting club. I've wanted to compost for some time but I don't have a garden or the space for a bin. I'm so excited about this. I make a big pot of vegetable soup every week and now all the carrot peels, celery ends, onion skins, etc. can go in the compost bin instead of the trash. There are drop off sites all over town--even one on our campus. Plus, every 6 months I get a cubic foot bag of soil. I have a friend who does have a garden and she can use the soil--then I can enjoy her tomatoes!

The explosion at Chernobyl happened 34 years ago today. I recently watched the HBO Chernobyl film and it was such an eye opener. I'm always amazed at how governments cover up disasters to avoid "embarrassment" and make the situation so much worse. I think our current pandemic is another example of that mentality.
