Fatema's actions
Action Track: Building Resilience
Research Benefits of Biodiversity
I will spend at least 30 minutes researching how biodiversity positively impacts our world and how the loss of biodiversity harms it.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 0 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Fresh Water
Dishwasher Efficiency
I will scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher and only run the dishwasher when it’s full.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 2 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Climate
My Carbon Footprint
Use an online tool (links below) to calculate my carbon footprint and see what changes would make the most difference. Each calculator varies, but you'll typically need to gather: utility records, the flight history for the last year, and annual mileage and fuel efficiency of your vehicles.
Climate
Local Climate Issues
I will spend at least 10 minute(s) a day researching climate issues or climate solutions in my local area and share with others through my team feed, social media, or conversations with my peers.
Climate
Energy savings for the home office
Now that we're all working from home, energy bills could go up. Take some time to evaluate your home office space (even if it's the kitchen table!). Many utilities offer home efficiency kits (LED bulbs, shower heads, etc.) - visit your electric utilities website to see if they offer any of these solutions. The links below will also help you find energy efficiency opportunities in your own space.
Food
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Fatema Adamji 4/30/2020 1:50 PMThis was a tough challenge when working from home. I found that I do a lot of things on a regular basis but was unable to start new habits because I haven't been outside much. On the plus side, because of that I relished my walks and that made me very happy. -
Fatema Adamji 4/29/2020 10:39 AMI haven't been great at checking in recently. I noticed I'm generally not good at that kind of thing. I found something to work on now! -
Fatema Adamji 4/22/2020 1:17 PMToday is Earth Day! Even more important to take action today - although every day should be Earth Day -
Fatema Adamji 4/21/2020 11:49 AMIt's been hailing today and quite grey outside. I don't think I will be able to go out for a walk today unfortunately. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Fatema Adamji 4/13/2020 7:02 AMI suppose people in less rich countries rely on their livestock for other needs and breeding the animals for meat is costly. Eating more meat affects our environment negatively by increasing production of methane (a greenhouse gas), often leads to deforestation for grazing land thus affecting the planet's ability to cycle carbon dioxide and can also cause movement of disease between species. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate My Carbon FootprintWhat was most surprising to you about your carbon footprint?
Fatema Adamji 4/08/2020 10:17 AMMy footprint included my roommates and I noticed that even with the effort I put in, I could do more to help reduce my household impact. It is tough to make changes when you are not the owner of the place but can try make recommendations! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Fatema Adamji 4/07/2020 8:05 AMI understand that these dates are now just suggestions and will not make food less safer to eat. The more important one is likely best before dates but it depends on the type of food.-
Courtney Groszhans 4/08/2020 8:48 AMThere is so much food waste, and if these dates were more accurate, it would save so much of it! I wish there was an informational flyer that told you how to tell when food was no longer safe to eat!

Fatema Adamji 4/03/2020 9:05 AMI joined storytime this morning where one of our senior leaders read a story to our colleagues' children, It was so nice to see their adorable faces and I loved listening to the story. What a fun start to a Friday!-
Courtney Groszhans 4/03/2020 9:41 AMWow, that is awesome!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Dishwasher EfficiencyHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Fatema Adamji 4/03/2020 9:01 AMBy learning ways to reduce water use including shorter showers, reduced flushing during the day ad only running the dishwasher when full, you can teach yourself to be less reliant on large amounts of water -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Fatema Adamji 4/01/2020 1:21 PMWe had a virtual birthday celebration today for Canada employees where we sang altogether on a Skype call. It was out of sync and not in tune but boy was it fun and the laugh I needed today. I think connecting with others really keeps me happy and I'm hoping sharing some time with others will do the same for them too.
