REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Natalia Banaszkiewicz 4/10/2020 9:16 AMYes, this 100% rings true for me. I believe that everyone needs to be connecting with nature and the outside world to remain sane. Being outside allows you to take a break from the indoors where it is very easy to become lazy and unmotivated. I think even 30 minutes a day can help a lot! Spending most of your time indoors can cause people to feel alone, introverted, or even depressed. It is super important to go outside every day to help. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Natalia Banaszkiewicz 4/10/2020 9:13 AMConnecting with others allows me to still have that communication everyone needs just through the phone. I think doing Skype/Facetime helps a lot because it is the closest thing we have to seeing each other. I think it has helped both me and my friends with our mental health because we are still able to hang out and do things together just through the phone. It's kinda like long distance except were only 5 minutes away -
Natalia Banaszkiewicz 4/10/2020 9:06 AMHopefully more people will eat meatless options today due to Good Friday! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?
Natalia Banaszkiewicz 4/08/2020 10:18 AMI think it is very wrong for people/animals to get their water source taken away from them just because a corporation will use it for bottled water. I think there should be a percentage or part of the water source that should be left to the people/animals and there should never be a situation where the entire source is given to the corporation. -
Natalia Banaszkiewicz 4/08/2020 10:10 AMI am trying to follow these challenges every day this month and while it's super difficult at times, I will continue trying and hopefully meet all of my daily goals! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Natalia Banaszkiewicz 4/08/2020 10:09 AMI think that people in richer countries eat more meat because it is made easily and it is very easily accessible for them. In poorer countries, they have to catch and kill the animal in order to eat it and then do all the things necessary in order to be able to eat it. It is easier to get plant based foods that they can grow instead of catch. Eating meat is not good for our planet because meat production leads to pollution and the usage of fossil fuels. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Natalia Banaszkiewicz 4/08/2020 10:06 AMWow, yes that surprises me a lot. Me being born in a poorer country has taught me to not throw food out unless it goes bad and we hardly let food go bad in my house. It's super sad that people in America are taught that throwing food away so easily is okay. That money can be used for so many things such as paying for bills, school, or even taking a vacation. -
Natalia Banaszkiewicz 4/03/2020 10:56 AMI have started eating more vegan meals in the past few weeks and will continue trying to eat less and less meat and dairy products!
