Jessica's actions
Forests
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation.
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Forests
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 5 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 5 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Jessica Burnette-Cecchettini 4/17/2020 1:18 PMEmpowered!! If I keep trying it will become a habit hopefully.-
Melissa Tomecz 4/20/2020 12:10 PMIt really is much better than constantly throwing away something. I remember going to a muffin shop a few years ago with my own thermos and the server had no problems filling it up and charging me the right size. Plus, I find it keeps my coffee hotter, longer.
