Peyton's actions
Wildlife
Research Benefits of Biodiversity
I will spend at least 20 minutes researching how biodiversity positively impacts our world and how the loss of biodiversity harms it.
Fresh Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Fresh Water
Dishwasher Efficiency
I will scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher and only run the dishwasher when it’s full.
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
People
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 15 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?
Peyton Camden 7/21/2021 10:43 AMUsing what you have instead of supporting further harm by buying things you don't necessarily need is a great way to reduce your impact, or buying or using secondhand instead of new. Aesthetics feel like they matter but in reality that isn't necessarily better for anyone or anything. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Conserve Toilet WaterWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Peyton Camden 4/14/2020 8:38 AMit's super easy to just not be wasteful when it comes to the toilet - don't dump random stuff in it and don't flush when it's empty -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Research Benefits of BiodiversityHow can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?
Peyton Camden 4/09/2020 10:15 AMI learned that there are many animal-borne diseases that get transmitted as places are industrialized and deforested, and that biodiversity increases an ecosystem's resilience. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Dishwasher EfficiencyHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Peyton Camden 4/02/2020 2:55 PMit's so cool how such small changes in my life could make a bigger difference :) -

REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Peyton Camden 4/01/2020 6:24 PMit was really nice to spend a day outside, especially getting that good vitamin d
