Calculate Personal Carbon Footprint
Complete your personal carbon footprint calculator. Go to www.wsppact.com and answer the questions for each section. The process takes about 10 minutes. Details about your utility bills and travel will be required. Please be as accurate as you can, but it’s not required to search for receipts.
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Fresh Water
Water-Friendly Beauty Products
Avoid beauty products with micro beads or harsh chemicals that will feed into the ground and your water supply.
Fresh Water
Dishwasher Efficiency
I will scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher and only run the dishwasher when it’s full.

I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.

Edward Campbell 5/01/2020 4:14 AMGreat learning experience - a lot to think about, a lot to plan and a lot to put into action. I have found locally we are rather sustainable with a relatively small carbon footprint - travel to and from work blows that apart. -
Edward Campbell 5/01/2020 4:12 AMMuch much to think about.... decide ... and put into action -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Vedge Pledge and WebinarHow does food impact your carbon footprint?
Edward Campbell 5/01/2020 4:10 AMFood impacts the carbon footbprint based on the travel distance to the market. Grocery stores today have a huge often mindbending selection of the same goods -fruits and vegetables once seasonal are available year round. These benefits come at a cost to the carbon footprint - as the trasnportation carbon footprint is large. This can be mitigated through more local markets. The current COVID 19 virus has shown limitations to the consolidation of certain goods - in this case meets or flour - one or two plants provide to the entire country - these facilities have been hit hard with many employees contracting COVID 19 - this calls for a local approach to improve the resiliency while lessoning the carbon footprint. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?
Edward Campbell 4/21/2020 8:16 AMThe big concern is the apparent lack of true recycling of plastic water bottles and other plastic projects as such I have to the extent possible discountinued use of plastic while composting all cardboard and paper -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Calculate Personal Carbon FootprintWhat surprised you about your PACT results?
Edward Campbell 4/17/2020 6:49 AMNot too surprised as I travel to DC on a weekly basis as augmented staff to implement a capital program including integrating sustainability through the frameworks of LEED and ENVISION - at home on work ends and now in the evening hours we are growing an heirloom apple orchard organically, re-establishing a 50' forest buffer adjacent to a trout stream, and replacing a grass meadow with native wildflowers - to date we have planted approximately 130 trees -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Water-Friendly Beauty ProductsBeyond what does or doesn't come out of the tap at home, how do your choices affect freshwater locally and globally?
Edward Campbell 4/10/2020 10:27 AMAt the house we use a Deep well - all gray and waste water flow back into the ground via septic tank - all plantings are heavily mulched to provide moisture during periods of less rain and drought
