How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

Yes, I enjoy the trip much more when I am biking rather than walking. And I have also noticed that when you are out moving you see more people in the neighborhood and are able to engage with them.

How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

I think it is going to be difficult because I depend on coffee, I am going to look into alternatives. As a result of this, I will pay attention to what is in my food specifically palm oil. I have been cutting out eggs and beef from my diet which has been easy except for craving burgers

    Food Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

We have a garden in our yard that we will use our compost on. We have just started and are composting coffee grounds and eggshells for now. My mom said that once we get a handle on this we will move to compost more food waste. I still find it hard to remember that we are composting but I'm working on it and my mom is reminding me.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    People Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

    Polly Ciesla 4/09/2020 9:35 AM
Yes, I enjoy spending time outside because I find it peaceful. Going on a hike or even a walk outside helps you get out of your normal element and find peace. Being outside relieves stress, makes you happy and overall improves health.

    People Connect While Social Distancing
How does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?

Connecting with others helps us feel connected in this time of isolation. It helps us not feel alone and lets us share our emotions and thoughts throughout this whole event. It lets others know that we are here for them. It can help relieve stress and give us a sense of normalcy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Polly Ciesla's avatar
    Polly Ciesla 4/01/2020 1:49 PM
People in richer countries have access to supermarkets and fast food where they can get meat easily and for cheap. The amount of water used to produce meat is harmful for the environment. The carbon footprint from beef is large so to even cut out beef is good for the environment.
