Joseph's actions
People
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 2 hour(s) in my community helping people who are most at need right now, including elderly and immunocompromised people, people without childcare, and people whose jobs have been affected by social distancing measures.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Joseph Cirilano 4/02/2020 10:55 AMI usually just load every into my cart with no bags and then load it in my car or I accept disposable bags but I repurpose them after I use them to carry my groceries. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Volunteer in my CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Joseph Cirilano 4/02/2020 10:53 AMIt allows me to get to know a diverse group of people in my neighborhood that otherwise I most likely wouldn’t be exposed to. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Joseph Cirilano 4/02/2020 10:52 AMPlastic bags are single use items that can be easily replaced with reusable bags we can bring ourselves. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Joseph Cirilano 4/02/2020 10:51 AMPeople in richer countries eat more meat because they can afford it. Eating meet espically beef releases a lot of pollution -
Joseph Cirilano 3/09/2020 5:20 AMThis is a great challenge I can’t wait to take part and make a change :)))
