Margaret's actions
Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Fresh Water
Dishwasher Efficiency
I will scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher and only run the dishwasher when it’s full.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 10 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
People
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 2 piece(s) of litter each day while following the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Action Track: Earth Day Together!
Earth Day Action: Write a Love Letter, Poem, or Song to Earth
I will express my love and gratitude for our Earth by writing a love letter, poem, or song to Earth.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 2 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh WaterHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Margaret Cochran 4/25/2020 7:30 AMOur household can only use the dishwasher and laundry once they're full, only use one cup per person (for each day), and don't leave the water running when you don't need it!

Margaret Cochran 4/25/2020 7:26 AMMy challenges have been going pretty well the only thing I want to work harder at is that I don't always do all of the challenges I checked off to do! -

REFLECTION QUESTIONOceansWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
-
Margaret Cochran 4/24/2020 5:34 AMLast night after dinner I was showing my 4-year-old sister what I was doing and how I'm trying to help the earth and this was her response, "I wish we were in outer space because then we could help the earth!" she's only 4. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeopleHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Margaret Cochran 4/24/2020 5:26 AMI think that when we help clean up our neighborhood we show our neighborhood that we are here to help! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building ResilienceHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Margaret Cochran 4/23/2020 4:43 PMIf we stay stuck inside our house without communicating to friends we won't have the close bonds that we used to have before. Friends and Family are very special people who care about you and want to see you so don't forget to call them!!!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Earth Day Together! What are you grateful for about our planet? Share what you created or your general thoughts of love and gratitude with everyone else!
Margaret Cochran 4/23/2020 4:25 PMI'm grateful to have a place to live and have a home. I'm grateful that the earth provides some people with clean water. But when I learn about the people that don't have clean water my heart sinks, and I really want to do something about that.
