Annette's actions
Forests
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Fresh Water
Get Involved in the Water Justice Movement
I will spend at least 30 minutes a day using the resources provided to learn about water justice and find out how I can get involved in local initiatives.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 3 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.
People
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 4 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Oceans
Learn about Our Oceans
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning about how our oceans support life on Earth by producing oxygen, regulating climate, and providing habitat, food, and jobs.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

Annette Colgan 4/22/2020 5:22 PMThis challenge has really illustrated how much I waste because of the economic consumer treadmill that I am a part of. Im really hoping that we are on the brink of a social revolution where humanity comes together as a species to change, fix and reverse environmental damages. Because of population growth and unchecked industries, we have over withdrawn resources from the planet. I will continue to try and change my cause and effect and try to educate others. -
Annette Colgan 4/22/2020 2:34 PMI have tried really hard to focus on my fresh water consumption. Turning the taps off when im scrubbing dishes or my teeth, having reusable water bottles and watering the garden at night. I feel like freshwater is going to be the biggest issue for most of society very soon, and we all need to evaluate how much we are casually consuming. -
Annette Colgan 4/21/2020 9:23 PMThe challenge has been going well; food prep is going really well but its also highlighted how many of thngs i buy are contained in single use plastics. I made the choice last year to invest in reusable containers which helps at home, ut some of the products i buy are in plastics in store. It makes me wonder if I should focus more on the products/companies that I support. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Get Involved in the Water Justice MovementWho is affected by polluted water or a lack of access to water in your region? How are they affected?
Annette Colgan 4/13/2020 12:23 PMThere is not a lot of fresh water available to the homeless population in the area. There isn't a place that provides fresh drinking water and bathing water to people living on the streets (access to shelters has gotten together because of lack of volume and high demand). This creates incredibly unhealthy living situation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Annette Colgan 4/13/2020 12:19 PMBeing able to talk to my friends on a semi regular basis helps me decompress from the stress of not working and from not really seeing anyone else besides my roommate (incredibly thankful for technology). I hope that it helps my friends talking to me, so that we all know that we are not alone.-
Sharon Uwase 4/13/2020 7:46 PMI agree with you Annette it has also helped me out alot doing video calls, with friends and family, its makes you not feel alone and helps the stress out since we are unable to be out socializing with people.

REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Annette Colgan 4/13/2020 12:11 PMI actually invested in more than one. My biggest problem with just having one is at the end of the day I forget to bring it in from my car or I will leave it at work. So having multiple ones helps me sustain my improvement and still be forgetful. -
Annette Colgan 4/13/2020 12:10 PMIve been feeling really disconnected lately, so today I reached out to my friends Monica and Andrew. Talking to my friends and checking in helps me stay focused and hopefully it helps them feel more connected as well.-
Sharon Uwase 4/13/2020 7:47 PMIts a great way I was also able to get a hold of my friends and relatives that we haven't spoken in a long time.

Annette Colgan 4/12/2020 12:13 PMIve been finding it hard to keep up with the challenges and completing my other courses. I found my meal prep imporeving, but i also see how much packaging ive been using over the years that needs to be separated and recycled. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Annette Colgan 4/10/2020 12:00 PMIt dosent suprise me because we are a consumer society. I know that the grocery stores only put out the finest looking fruits and vegetables because customers wont buy "ugly" produce. Im sure most of the items purchased end up in the trash because they look less than perfect. -
Annette Colgan 4/10/2020 11:57 AMToday I watched the documentary series Our Planet, specifically episode 4 Costal Seas. It was informative and absolutely saddening. To see the massive, destructive impact that human beings have on wildlife is terrible.
