  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Wildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
How do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?

By choosing to use foods that can be composted, and less manufactured waste, I'm ensuring it gets reused responsibly and won't be left out as a hazard to the local wildlife of Rockford,IL. I.E., not leaving out plastic bags and other things.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

I will bring my own bags, but if I run out of room, I look for an empty box to use or ask for one. Either way, I notify an employee. I also reuse the box I take for painting my Dungeons and Dragons miniatures.

    Wildlife Research a Wild Animal
What interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?

I learned Raccoons's are the largest of the procyonid family, and I thought that it was interesting how only recently it was discovered that they act differently regarding a sex-specific social behavior.

Pretty good. Compost bin is on the way, but been using buckets to store it in the meantime. Snow was not ideal for gardening, but the compost will be fine. Been using filtered water, no bottles of water, and shower quickly.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Fresh Water Conserve Toilet Water
What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

    Cody Denneau's avatar
    Cody Denneau 4/19/2020 9:39 AM
Sustainable water would be with less water waste, more knowledge of water fluctuation and usage, and better treatment procedures. We have our own water well, and not a source from the city.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Fresh Water Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?

I can advocate for better water processing procedures my writing to these companies and by writing to our local and state representatives about how heinous these actions are!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

    Cody Denneau's avatar
    Cody Denneau 4/16/2020 4:17 AM
It does surprise me. This money can go for student loans.

I thought the amount of money would be higher but the money could go in a savings account.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

We purchased a compost bin from Amazon, and have a plot for gardening. We are using compost next to the garden, we're still new to it, but it's saved us trash space. Go Green!
