  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Leave No Trace
Educator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?

    Reed Di PIerno's avatar
Reed Di PIerno 4/26/2020 7:55 AM
I wouldn't say there is a specific area I need to work in terms of ecological problems. I feel I could help out more by polluting the air less by using less fossil fuels. By traveling less on a daily basis, the earth would be benefiting.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

    Reed Di PIerno's avatar
Reed Di PIerno 4/24/2020 10:54 AM
In a situation where I don't have reusable bags, I could always use paper bags instead because they are not as bad as plastic. This way I will have an alternative that doesn't affect the environment as negatively.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Oceans Learn about Our Oceans
What is one way in which oceans support your life on Earth? What is one way you can help take care of ocean health with your actions?

    Reed Di PIerno's avatar
Reed Di PIerno 4/24/2020 10:08 AM
Oceans support my way of life on Earth by providing me with an unbelievable source of food with all the fish they provide. I can help take care of these oceans by doing my part and keeping them clean, while promoting others to do the same.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Oceans Join a Cleanup Effort
How does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?

    Reed Di PIerno's avatar
Reed Di PIerno 4/24/2020 10:06 AM
Cleaning up my community with the help of other volunteers makes me feel great because while I'm giving back to my community, I'm also giving back to the Earth as well.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Forests Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Reed Di PIerno's avatar
Reed Di PIerno 4/24/2020 9:59 AM
During this Ecochallenge I have planted one tree. By doing this, not only does it make me feel good, it allows the tree to be apart of a new environment. It felt good to give back to the Earth and provide it with new life.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Forests Forest-Friendly Foods
How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

    Reed Di PIerno's avatar
Reed Di PIerno 4/24/2020 9:55 AM
It wasn't that bad changing my diet, considering I only tried doing it for a couple of days. It was definitely a different way of living, so I'm glad I tested it out for a little bit of time.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Forests Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?

    Reed Di PIerno's avatar
Reed Di PIerno 4/24/2020 9:53 AM
By spending more time outside in a certain environment, you become more aware of whats around you, then you had previously done before
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

    Reed Di PIerno's avatar
Reed Di PIerno 4/24/2020 9:50 AM
This does not surprise me at all, although it is very sad. Individuals could be spending this wasted money on anything else. They could be spending money on their houses, on their family, going on vacation, putting it in the bank, etc.
