Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife Research Benefits of Biodiversity
How can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?

    Sophia Fairbairn's avatar
    Sophia Fairbairn 4/24/2020 9:53 AM
I can encourage biodiversity by learning about it and then spreading that information to other people who can then spread it to more.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Earth Day Together! Earth Day Action: Share Eco Tips
What environmentally friendly habit have you most recently implemented? How do you ensure that you are successful in creating or changing a habit?

    Sophia Fairbairn's avatar
    Sophia Fairbairn 4/22/2020 10:08 AM
I have been trying to compost more often. Instead of throwing food into the trash, I have been trying to put it into the compost bin.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Forests Forest-Friendly Foods
How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

    Sophia Fairbairn's avatar
    Sophia Fairbairn 4/20/2020 12:28 PM
It will be hard at first because it will take a little bit of time to get used to the changes, but in the end it would be worth it because it helps to save the rainforests.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

    Sophia Fairbairn's avatar
    Sophia Fairbairn 4/13/2020 8:00 PM
I think that during this time, many people have been going outside more often. I have definitely enjoying the outdoors a lot more and I think that my mental and emotional health has greatly benefited from that.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Wildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
How do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?

    Sophia Fairbairn's avatar
    Sophia Fairbairn 4/12/2020 3:02 PM
By consuming organic and ecofriendly products, that can help support wildlife.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

    Sophia Fairbairn's avatar
    Sophia Fairbairn 4/10/2020 2:21 PM
It has been hard for me to get used to not throwing food away which definitely says something and I think it will get easier once I continue to compost my food.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?

    Sophia Fairbairn's avatar
    Sophia Fairbairn 4/09/2020 7:37 PM
By spending more time outdoors recently, I have become more aware to the areas around me and can appreciate them more.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Sophia Fairbairn's avatar
    Sophia Fairbairn 4/08/2020 11:41 AM
We use so much plastic and it concerns me about how much of that plastic ends up in our oceans. Life in the ocean is greatly affected by this pollution in their environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Oceans Learn about Our Oceans
What is one way in which oceans support your life on Earth? What is one way you can help take care of ocean health with your actions?

    Sophia Fairbairn's avatar
    Sophia Fairbairn 4/07/2020 11:00 AM
I can take care of the ocean's health by making sure I properly dispose of things like car oil so they don't end up in the ocean. It is important to take care of the ocean because it regulates our climate and helps to absorb carbon dioxide.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

    Sophia Fairbairn 4/06/2020 7:12 PM
I can try to remember to turn off lights when I leave a room and try to use natural light when possible instead of electricity.

It's often all of us doing the small things that make the most impact. If we all do things like replacing lights, turning off lights when we leave a room, and installing low flow faucets, we can really make an impact.
