REFLECTION QUESTIONPeopleWhy is it important that we learn about environmental advocacy in our own community?
Jarea Fang 4/20/2020 10:27 AMSaving our planet is a global effort, every community counts. Learning and advocating for the environment in our community is the quickest and more direct way that we can help the global movement as well as reap the direct benefits. For example, by attending local farmer's markets to buy sustainably grown vegetables, we not only support small businesses in our community we are also cutting carbon emissions by eating locally grown vegetables, instead of those that need to be transported from far away. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building ResilienceRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Jarea Fang 4/09/2020 4:48 PMThere is scientific evidence that being outside is good for the human body and mind: sunlight activates Vitamin D, looking at green things is good for your eyes, etc. Being in nature reminds me that I am not alone in the world - the world is full of beautiful things, and I live in the world. To spend most of your time indoors means that it's difficult for you to stop and appreciate the world around you, and gratitude is another thing that is scientifically proven to help mental health. So, go outside (under CDC guidelines, of course)!
