My big takeaway is that positive community engagement is still possible, even as we face difficult and uncertain times.

I am particularly drawn towards the conservation of native species. These vital ecological systems, such as the midwestern prairies, are threatened primarily by agriculture practices. Education and awareness about environmental stewardship as well as gaining a history of the land is a good place to start.

I learned about the American Bison. This native species faced severe population loss due to hunting, but was brought back with extensive conversation efforts. Their natural territory is the majority of the US, aside from the coastal areas. But now they can only be found in national parks and preserves.
