I feel like people in "richer" countries may eat more meat for a variety of reasons, for me meat tends to be on the cheaper side and its what I have grown up eating (chicken, pork, and occasionally red meat). We may also say that we eat more meat because we need the protein to get through the days more efficiently, if we were to eat one meal of lets say chicken with veggies, we might be able to "survive" off of that meal for a good majority of our day before we burn it off and need to eat again. Many Americans work 8-10 hour shifts and even weekends to support theirselves and their families, if we are constantly working than we will constantly be burning calories. If you are fortunate enough to eat and entirely plant based diet then you may find yourself snacking multiple times throughout the day to satisfy your energy levels, but for many Americas taking a 15 minute snack break every couple of hours is not an option nor are the costs that come with it. By no means is eating more meat to satisfy your energy levels definitely not the answer, since purchasing and eating more meat products is contributing to the increase in our carbon footprints.
