REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Lindsay Hamel 4/27/2020 5:41 AMI think this is true there is so much in the world that we miss by staying inside and on screens. When I went on a hike we saw the mountain views and an owl. If I had stayed home I would have missed that. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Lindsay Hamel 4/24/2020 8:07 AMThe thing I worry about is if the thing that I am putting in the compost is compostable, mainly the tea bag as I have found mixed results when I have looked it up. But most of the things going in it is food scraps. It will go towards the garden to help it have good soil. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Research Benefits of BiodiversityHow can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?
Lindsay Hamel 4/24/2020 8:02 AMIf I am planting stuff I can make sure that it is native to the area. I can plant flowers and other native things that need to be pollinated to help the bees do their job. I think the important thing is to support my local agriculture and buy fruits and veggies locally. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Lindsay Hamel 4/23/2020 6:58 AMThere is nothing really standing in my way right now that prevents e from using the reusable mug because of the fact that I am not going anywhere. But if I were leaving then I would probably want to treat myself to coffee or something in a single-use cup, maybe once a week. I know that the plastic waste that is produced is bad, but my main problem is it is easy to look past that when it something that I like. It makes me feel good when I think about it, then I think somehow I am still doing it wrong and don't really know-how. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Lindsay Hamel 4/17/2020 7:25 AMBy spending time outside and exploring what the world has to offer, it shows me all the beauty that is around. It gives me time to slow down and appreciate what there is. In life, I choose to just go what I have and ignore what there is around me. By spending more time outside it allowed for me to reconnect and realize that there is still some beauty in this crazy world. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Lindsay Hamel 4/03/2020 7:13 AMI know for myself that if I don't reach out I won't ever do it and will just keep pushing it off for later. It is something that I don't always recognize that I need to be able to talk with different people but what I am going thought until we have finished talking. So I know it help me and i would guess that I can help my friends too.
