Autumn's actions
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 5 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Oceans
Learn about Our Oceans
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about how our oceans support life on Earth by producing oxygen, regulating climate, and providing habitat, food, and jobs.
Wildlife
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Wildlife
Research Benefits of Biodiversity
I will spend at least 30 minutes researching how biodiversity positively impacts our world and how the loss of biodiversity harms it.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Oceans
Support Organic Growing Methods
I will buy organic cotton and foods grown without the use of synthetic nitrogen fertilizers.
Fresh Water
Dishwasher Efficiency
I will scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher and only run the dishwasher when it’s full.
Climate
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 5 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Climate
Local Climate Issues
I will spend at least 10 minute(s) a day researching climate issues or climate solutions in my local area and share with others through my team feed, social media, or conversations with my peers.
Forests
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Learn about Our OceansWhat is one way in which oceans support your life on Earth? What is one way you can help take care of ocean health with your actions?
Autumn Henhoeffer 4/30/2020 1:24 PMThey are the homes of the fish I eat. I can join groups to clean up the ocean and minimize my waste and continue using reusable straws -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Local Climate IssuesIn what ways is your local community resilient to shock events like we’ve experienced recently? How could you help it become more resilient?
Autumn Henhoeffer 4/30/2020 9:46 AMWe have a lot of organizations and activists to be able to bounce back. I could volunteer to help. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Support Organic Growing MethodsIt is often said that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” What is your response to that statement?
Autumn Henhoeffer 4/30/2020 9:27 AMI think that is not true. We used to only live off of organic food and we survived so this literally makes no sense. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Support PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
Autumn Henhoeffer 4/30/2020 9:22 AMPollinators are the life source of everything. If we didn't ave pollinators we wouldn't have food, trees, or anything. We need them to live and survive. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Dishwasher EfficiencyHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Autumn Henhoeffer 4/30/2020 9:09 AMWe will limit our unnecessary water use. For example we wont water our plants without checking the forecast first to make sure it is not going to rains soon. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Autumn Henhoeffer 4/30/2020 8:08 AMIt feels good to be making a difference and minimizing my effects on carbon emissions and the amount of waste I produce. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Choose LED BulbsChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?
Autumn Henhoeffer 4/30/2020 8:06 AMI can walk or bike or run places instead of driving. I can also turn off any unnecessary appliances like fans or lights. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Research Benefits of BiodiversityHow can you encourage biodiversity by your own actions?
Autumn Henhoeffer 4/30/2020 8:02 AMBiodiversity is the variety of life. I spent 15 minutes researching the benefits of biodiversity. Some of the benefits are boosting ecosystem productivity where all species have a role, natural sustainability of all life forms, protecting freshwater resources, and promoting soil formation and protection. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Research a Wild AnimalWhat interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?
Autumn Henhoeffer 4/30/2020 7:57 AMI spent 20 minutes learning about polar bears. I wanted to learn about how the polar bears are doing with climate change. It's really sad. They are starving because they can’t get food and they are having to swim more and they are losing their homes. The babies are also oftentimes getting separated from their mothers because of the ice caps melting and breaking apart. They are dying at a fast rate. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Autumn Henhoeffer 4/30/2020 7:55 AMConnecting with other people benefits my mental health because I need people to feel okay. Being around people automatically lifts my mood and makes me feel better.
