Local Climate Issues
I will spend at least 15 minute(s) a day researching climate issues or climate solutions in my local area and share with others through my team feed, social media, or conversations with my peers.

Join a Cleanup Effort
I will host or participate in a beach, highway, river, or other cleanup effort in my community that follows the CDC’s current guidelines for prevention of disease transfer.
Wildlife
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 120 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 5 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Frances Hicks 4/10/2020 4:47 PMI had to carry a large amount of groceries to my car recently. It waa frustrating. In addition to keeping reusable bags near our front door on a hook I have placed some in my vehicle as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeopleHow does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?
Frances Hicks 4/10/2020 4:44 PMI help some cub scouts organize a clean-up (safely near their homes) and it felt great. I enjoy knowong that our local trails are cleaner. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Frances Hicks 4/10/2020 4:41 PMI'm not surprised. My husband and stepson refuse to eat left overs. My husband suffers from depression so his appetite varies widely. It's almost impossible to not have leftovers because I never know how much to make and am always afraid of having too little. $1500 would pay for a modest vacation for our whole family and mean so much to me.
