Lauren Hooper 4/26/2020 6:24 PMThis activity has really opened my eyes to see how many opportunities I have everyday to make an impact. Each day I complete my challenges I feel like I'm really making a difference. I really enjoy seeing my numbers going up each day in the various categories. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Lauren Hooper 4/09/2020 10:59 AMThis knowledge empowers me to save money, reduce the amount of waste I produce, and in the long run reduce the amount of waste taking over landfills and dumps. When you learn this knowledge you can use it for the rest of your lifetime. In addition, you can share what you know with others and increase the impact. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Lauren Hooper 4/07/2020 11:41 AMConnecting with others is a simply human need. When people connect they don't feel alone which results in a boosted mood. When you reach out to people their excitement to hear from you will boost your mood too. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Lauren Hooper 4/07/2020 11:38 AMI think its very important to spend time outside. When you spend time out in nature you develop an understanding and respect for it. In the long tun you will become more aware of how you impact the nature around you by just being there. With the culture we have of always being indoors we have many people who don't understand their impact, and simply don't respect the nature around them because they don't see it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Conserve Toilet WaterWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Lauren Hooper 4/07/2020 11:34 AMThe amount of water a generic toilet uses needs to be dramatically reduced. There has been efforts to do this, but there are still many public toilets that use an unnecessary amount of water per flush. You don't have to force people to not flush until necessary, but just simply replace existing toilets with more efficient ones. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?
Lauren Hooper 4/07/2020 11:29 AMBy simply refusing to purchase from these companies you can make an impact. Switching to a reusable bottle will reduce the amount of money these companies get from their actions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Water-Friendly Beauty ProductsBeyond what does or doesn't come out of the tap at home, how do your choices affect freshwater locally and globally?
Lauren Hooper 4/07/2020 11:26 AMWith the reduction of micro-beads and other contaminates found in beauty products there is a reduced amount of these things that will make it into the environment. This results in more freshwater available. In addition, this impacts wildlife health and safety.
