Jasper 's actions
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Climate
Stay on the Ground
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Fresh Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
People
Support A Sharing Economy
To reduce my consumption and waste and support my community, I will create or support a sharing economy with family, friends, and neighbors.
Forests
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 3 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Action Track: Earth Day Together!
Earth Day Action: Write a Love Letter, Poem, or Song to Earth
I will express my love and gratitude for our Earth by writing a love letter, poem, or song to Earth.

REFLECTION QUESTIONForestsMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Jasper Inamoto 4/28/2020 7:26 AMSomethings that make it harder is that sometimes if you go out to get something, then you might not be able to get a reusable one instead of a single-use cup. It can also be hard to bring a reusable one when you go out. It makes me feel good because I know that I am helping. -
Jasper Inamoto 4/23/2020 5:05 PMToday, I thought that it went well because I learned a lot of different things already. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimateWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Jasper Inamoto 4/23/2020 5:03 PMI never have traveled a lot on a plane so it wasn't that hard to do because it was somewhere close by, so then I just drove there. A way that I could avoid air travel in the future is by traveling more inside of our country, so then we could drive to places more easily, -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building ResilienceRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Jasper Inamoto 4/23/2020 5:56 AMYes, if we spend all of our time indoors, then we might use more materials that we could save if we spent more time outside. -
Jasper Inamoto 4/22/2020 8:20 AMSo far I think that my challenge has been going well because I have been able to do all of my challenges. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh WaterWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Jasper Inamoto 4/22/2020 8:17 AMI think that something that needs to change in my area is that I see a lot of people throwing plastic bottles into the trash. I think that this needs to change so we don't use as much plastic, of at least recycle it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Earth Day Together! What are you grateful for about our planet? Share what you created or your general thoughts of love and gratitude with everyone else!
Jasper Inamoto 4/22/2020 8:15 AMSomething that I am grateful for about our planet is that it gives us a place to live and everything that we need. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Jasper Inamoto 4/21/2020 10:55 AMSometimes I use my own reusable bag that I would make by myself, or whenever I need to go shopping, I would just keep a small bag in my pocket so then I won't forget to bring one with me. Sometimes I would also just carry things in my hands if I don't have a bag.
