KeeKee's actions
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 5 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
People
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 5 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Forests
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 2 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Earth Day Action!: Research and Support Local Organizations
I will spend 5 minutes researching local organizations and businesses in my community, then support one of them by writing a testimonial or positive review, ordering curbside, making a donation to my favorite nonprofit, or supporting them in another way.
Food
Advocate For More Food Options
Access to affordable, nutritious food is a food justice issue. I will advocate for local and/or organic food options in my state and/or community.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
KeeKee Jackson 4/30/2020 3:29 PMI'd carry it out in a cart and low it in my trunk. It's hard but it's helping the planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Earth Day Action!: Research and Support Local OrganizationsWhy is it important to support local organizations and businesses? How does it help to build a more resilient community?
KeeKee Jackson 4/30/2020 3:26 PMThey care about and are invested in the well-being of your community and its future. Local businesses are more accountable to their local communities and donate more money to non-profits. Supporting local businesses is good for the environment because they often have a smaller carbon footprint than larger companies. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Advocate For More Food OptionsWhat efforts would help food insecure regions have access to local, seasonal foods?
KeeKee Jackson 4/29/2020 3:02 AMFarmers that sponsor community supported agriculture programs ask consumers to purchase shares of their harvests prior to the growing season. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
KeeKee Jackson 4/26/2020 7:26 PMIt helps keep me sane. It's boring being quarantined and being able to still talk to my family and friends helps me stay connected. My grandfather was in the hospital for brain damage and being able to facetime him due to technology I was happy. He's good now, thank god! -
KeeKee Jackson 4/26/2020 7:24 PMI drank water bottle water today. I felt bad because I got use to the routine of drinking faucet water. I got right back on track though and I convinced my brother to do the same since he's starting to drink a lot of water. -
KeeKee Jackson 4/25/2020 4:05 PMThis challenge is so much fun! And I thought it was going to be boring. -
KeeKee Jackson 4/23/2020 7:18 PMI added a new one time action. -
KeeKee Jackson 4/19/2020 8:31 PMFaceTime has helped for me to connect with my friends. It's nice to be able to still see them at least and know how they are doing. -
KeeKee Jackson 4/17/2020 6:55 PMThe snow is beautiful in Chicago! It was nice to see nature today.-
Maria Aristeo 4/17/2020 7:03 PMI agree! I'm staying in the Pilsen area and my puppers loved the morning snow.
