Sue's actions
People
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 20 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Research Local Climate Issues
I will spend at least 15 minute(s) a day researching climate issues or climate solutions in my local area and share with others through my team feed, social media, or conversations with my peers.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 3 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Wildlife
Research Benefits of Biodiversity
I will spend at least 60 minutes researching how biodiversity positively impacts our world and how the loss of biodiversity harms it.
Forests
Advocate for Forest Protection
I will contact 2 congress people or representatives to advocate for public policy that protects forests and improves their ability to sequester carbon and nourish biodiversity.
Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 4 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 60 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Oceans
Learn about Our Oceans
I will spend at least 60 minutes learning about how our oceans support life on Earth by producing oxygen, regulating climate, and providing habitat, food, and jobs.
Climate
Driving an Electric Car
My goal was to lease an electric car and I am now doing that. I can now drive carbon free. (With the exception of the production of the car.)
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 2 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Action Track: Earth Day Together!
Earth Day Education
I will be part of an on line Earth Day class or Celebration. 1 Hour.

Sue Kane 4/26/2020 10:58 PMI had a friend talk to me about the letter I wrote to the safety valve. She liked the first section and the last section but was concerned about what I said in the middle section. (The section of Facts.) We are going to talk about these. Wish me luck!-
Jeanne Poirier 4/27/2020 8:14 PMI would really, really like to have a copy of the letter you sent Sue. If you think of it, would you please send me a copy email or . . . . It was awesome!!

Sue Kane 4/25/2020 11:01 PMI was out in my yard today and didn't suffer from allergies! I hope this means I am over them for a season. We have a lot of birds in our yard this spring, Lots of wonderful singing and one or two considering moving into a bird house that has never been used. Cool!-
Jeanne Poirier 4/26/2020 6:41 PMOne can hope it continues for no allergy suffering!! I chased off a white-headed woodpecker from our hardi-plank outhouse today - they've managed to put a hole or two in previously!! In the middle of forest area - I hope they get a bad headache and make better choices too :!
