Kevin's actions
Fresh Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Fresh Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Wildlife
Leave No Trace
I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace when doing nature activities alone or with family and friends.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).

Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?
Kevin Kinnan 4/27/2020 11:43 AMThe sale of water in plastic bottles is foolish and should be banned. At the minimum there should be a deposit for all of these bottles to encourage recycling. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Eco-friendly GardeningWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Kevin Kinnan 4/27/2020 11:41 AMMy biggest concern is protection of our Great Lakes ecosystem - the largest surface freshwater system in the world. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Leave No TraceEducator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?
Kevin Kinnan 4/27/2020 11:40 AMMy area of interest is the loss of biodiversity. “I will argue that every scrap of biological diversity is priceless, to be learned and cherished, and never to be surrendered without a struggle.” ~ E.O. Wilson -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Research a Wild AnimalWhat interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?
Kevin Kinnan 4/27/2020 11:38 AMThere has only been one Wolverine documented living in the state of Michigan. Science teacher, Jeff Ford, studied this wolverine living in Michigan's Thumb region from its discovery in 2004 until its natural death in 2010. -
