Rhaya's actions
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Wildlife
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Fresh Water
Water-Friendly Beauty Products
Avoid beauty products with micro beads or harsh chemicals that will feed into the ground and your water supply.
Food
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Fresh Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.

Earth Day Action: Share Eco Tips
Through social media or on the Earth Day Ecochallenge feed, I will share my favorite environmentally friendly habit with my friends, even if it’s not an Earth Day action.
Oceans
Learn about Our Oceans
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning about how our oceans support life on Earth by producing oxygen, regulating climate, and providing habitat, food, and jobs.
Climate
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 3 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Forests
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation.
Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Climate
Earth Day Action: Write a Love Letter, Poem, or Song to Earth

REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Rhaya Klein 4/25/2020 9:28 AMThere's a lot of seafood in Florida because we are right on the water but there is an advisor for mercury in Florida waters that have been issued since 1989. This doesn't really go against my diet because I don't go out and catch my own fish so when I do eat fish it's gone through enough people to know its relatively safe. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Learn about Our OceansWhat is one way in which oceans support your life on Earth? What is one way you can help take care of ocean health with your actions?
Rhaya Klein 4/25/2020 9:19 AMThe oceans support my daily life because in Florida they base a lot of the economy off of the ocean what activities it brings. I work at Camp Bow Wow which is a doggy daycare we get a lot of dogs from people who are going to the beach and going out of town. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Forest-Friendly FoodsHow difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Rhaya Klein 4/25/2020 9:14 AMIt was really hard cutting out coffee in my daily diet because I am obsessed with drinking coffee. That was probably the hardest part because I try and have a healthy diet -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Choose LED BulbsChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?
Rhaya Klein 4/25/2020 9:13 AMYou can reduce your carbon emissions by not driving around as much and carpooling with others. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate Earth Day Action: Write a Love Letter, Poem, or Song to EarthWhat are you grateful for about our planet? Share what you created or your general thoughts of love and gratitude with everyone else!
Rhaya Klein 4/25/2020 9:10 AMI am grateful for everything the Earth does fo ruse to have clean air and provide oxygen for everyone.
I am thankful for what my mom has done for me to succeed in school and life and I'm thankful for the opportunities I have ben given. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Rhaya Klein 4/22/2020 1:29 PMIn this case, companies use food dating to communicate both to store owners when a carton of milk should be taken off the shelf and to customers when the milk should no longer be consumed. "Best by" dates are not expiration dates, however. They merely mark the last day before food quality declines. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Rhaya Klein 4/22/2020 1:29 PMFrom my research, I found that it's a lot of the poorer countries who eat meat because they all locally source their own food from farms. By eating more meat it is causing that animal population to decrease and the livestock sector — raising cows, pigs and chickens — generates as much greenhouse gas emissions as all cars, trucks and automobiles combined -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Eco-friendly GardeningWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Rhaya Klein 4/22/2020 1:24 PMI think the biggest water concern in my area is when we have a hurricane the streets start to flood. By flooding the streets it makes it difficult to move around and help recover from the hurricane -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Earth Day Action: Share Eco TipsWhat environmentally friendly habit have you most recently implemented? How do you ensure that you are successful in creating or changing a habit?
Rhaya Klein 4/22/2020 1:23 PMI have started to pick up any trash that I see on the ground. I did it before but now I have started to pick up more than before. I'm going to make sure that keep picking up trash and making sure I keep the community clean -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPeople Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Rhaya Klein 4/22/2020 1:18 PMBy picking up litter you are connecting to your community by bettering the animals that live there and also you are keeping the community clean.
