Bailey's actions
Action Track: Building Resilience
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 20 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 60 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Fresh Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 3 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 2 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Oceans
Learn about Our Oceans
I will spend at least 20 minutes learning about how our oceans support life on Earth by producing oxygen, regulating climate, and providing habitat, food, and jobs.
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Food
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Bailey Lankford 4/30/2020 8:33 AMGetting away from the constant stress of school work and family and screen time is very stress-relieving for me, and right now the only time I can get that is being outside. It's very peaceful. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Bailey Lankford 4/29/2020 7:58 AMKnowing the difference between these dates helps me to make choices about food. Knowing these differences helps me to know the truth behind how long my food will actually be good if it has a certain use by versus sell-by date, and will help me to make better food choices as a whole. -
Bailey Lankford 4/24/2020 1:54 PMThis didn't go through from yesterday for some reason- another funny sign! Little weird, little funny -

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Bailey Lankford 4/09/2020 7:38 PMIf I need bags but don't have a reusable one, if possible, I will carry my items. However, sometimes I need to accept a disposable bag. When this is the case, I bring the bag home and save it, either to carry something else or to help clean up after my dog. Both of my parents keep reusable bags in their cars, so they always have one when out shopping. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Bailey Lankford 4/05/2020 1:35 PMI think that my diet falls within the guidelines for my area. I am a pescatarian, so while I do partake of fish, I don't do it often. I always make sure that my food is sourced in a way that is sustainable, and all of the restaurants that I go to where I consume fish advertise themselves as sustainable places. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Support PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
Bailey Lankford 4/04/2020 7:50 AMPollinators provide us with everything- flowers, trees, and the crops we grow for food. Without pollinators, our world would not be able to exist as it does now.
