    Food Vedge Pledge and Webinar
How does food impact your carbon footprint?

What types of food we consume have a major impact on our carbon footprint.  Studies show that if everyone reduced their consumption of beef, pork and poultry by a quarter and ate a more plant based protein diet we will save about 82 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.  Wow!

    People Keep My Community Clean
How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

It gives me a sense of pride.  The area where I live has many beautiful parks, forests and lakes. Also all sorts of wildlife.   Keeping it litter free for others to enjoy.

    People Connect While Social Distancing
How does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?

Connecting with others has helped relieve worry and anxiety I have for family and friends who don't live close by.  It is so much easier in this day and age to reach out to someone. My church community called all it's parishioners to check on everyone.  It gave me a great sense of belonging and support.

I bought a bamboo toothbrush and will no longer buy plastic toothbrushes.  I can't imagine how many are in the landfill. Yikes!

If anyone watched the news yesterday on Earth Day it reported the pandemic side effects happening on earth.  Skies were clearer in Milan and New Delhi. The waters in Venice were clearer. Animals emerging in places not seen before. This is the worst way to experience environmental improvement. It shows the challenges we face and the size of the task.

Dear Earth, Thank you for letting me walk on your soil, breathe your fresh air, and see your beautiful colors. I will be more conscious of my choices than before. A me who is more mindful, careful and respectful.  Thank you... Lisa

Learned my local zoo has a pollinator garden. They also have teaching events. I plan on growing pollinator friendly flowers, provide nest sites and avoid pesticides in my garden this summer.

Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

Lisa Martino Cook 4/14/2020 6:12 AM
Less confusion is created by knowing the difference between use by, sell by and best by dates which will result in myself or consumers discarding wholesome food. It is also essential that food is handled and stored properly.

I was on vacation in Mexico a few weeks ago at an all inclusive resort on the Mayan Riviera.  Every day I walked the beach a couple times a day.  I couldn't believe the plastic that kept washing up from the ocean.  I picked up all the plastic I could on my walks.  One of the hotel workers was raking the seaweed and saw me.  He thanked me.  I thought even though this is your country this is Our world.
