Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Food
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 5 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Fresh Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Forests
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area while following CDC guidelines for social distancing.
Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 6 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Action Track: Earth Day Together!
Earth Day Action: Write a Love Letter, Poem, or Song to Earth
I will express my love and gratitude for our Earth by writing a love letter, poem, or song to Earth.

Ryan McGovern 4/28/2020 10:23 AMToday I have been drinking out of my reusable cup to save bottles and I thought about this challenge while I was at it. -
Ryan McGovern 4/27/2020 12:42 PMAs I am completing this challenge I am realizing that this could be a very effective way on saving Earth. If we got enough students to participate in this it could make a huge difference. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Earth Day Together! Earth Day Action: Write a Love Letter, Poem, or Song to EarthWhat are you grateful for about our planet? Share what you created or your general thoughts of love and gratitude with everyone else!
Ryan McGovern 4/25/2020 12:50 PMPlanet Earth to me is like a dream come true. I am so thankful for the nature aspect of it. I love how i can go out and go fishing and observe then realize the beautiful fish. I am also very thankful to live in Florida next to these beautiful beaches. -
Ryan McGovern 4/25/2020 12:46 PMToday I faced a challenged that said I have to use no plastic straws. I was super familiar with this sort of movement because the restaurant that i used to work at only used paper straws. We were located next to a lake to I think this is why they used them but I though it was cool how it came up again. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONForests Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Ryan McGovern 4/25/2020 12:42 PMBeing native to Florida and living here my whole life makes it very important for me to go out and check my surrounding area. I need to make sure I am very familiar with habitat so that i can know where I am at all times. I plan on spending the rest of my life in Florida so it will be very beneficial for me to know my way around and to know where everything is. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONOceans Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Ryan McGovern 4/25/2020 12:39 PMA single use item that I often use is plastic bags from grocery stores. I never throw them out when I am done with them though. I put them in the bottom of my pantry and I use them for lunch bags or to carry anything I need to like drinks or even fishing lures. Doing this makes these bags reusable and not a one-time use product. -
Ryan McGovern 4/24/2020 11:16 AMEveryday I go to work I am using a reusable drinking container that keeps my drink ice cold. This is helps out with the reusable water challenge. -
Ryan McGovern 4/24/2020 11:14 AMThis challenge is entertaining and a much more enjoyable way of doing a final! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?
Ryan McGovern 4/24/2020 11:10 AMPeople being offended by this water bottling process need to protect their water sources more for not only the humans but the wildlife around the are too. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Conserve Toilet WaterWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Ryan McGovern 4/24/2020 11:06 AMA sustainable water future would look like a community effort. We we need everybody around us to watch how long their showers take, watch their laundry and dish loads, and use reusable water bottles.
