Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 6 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals. If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
People
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Food
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 10 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Mitchell Modzel 4/17/2020 11:21 AMI've been making more meatless meals and I just discovered the deliciousness that is sauteed brocolli -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Mitchell Modzel 4/08/2020 8:31 AMStores can charge money to use their disposable bags, but things I like to do to remind myself that I have bags is to keep my reusable bags near my door so I see them when I walk you to go shopping so that I don't forget them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?
Mitchell Modzel 4/08/2020 8:30 AMI think one of the best ways to advocate is with your money. Make it so that there isn't a market for those product. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social DistancingHow does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?
Mitchell Modzel 4/08/2020 8:29 AMHumans are social creatures so it makes sense we need to talk with other people. I find video calls are the best because you can actually see the other person. -
Mitchell Modzel 4/06/2020 6:46 AMChallenge is going alright but I'm curious with all this work from home, how much positive impact to the environment will there be.
