Action Track: Building Resilience
Support Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators, including monarch butterflies, to produce fruit. I will spend 10 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 1 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.
Food
Planting a Garden
Self sustainability and reducing the need to buy produce at a store which wastes resources. I use my own home produced compost in my garden. Additionally it's time spent outdoors.
Forests
Use a Reusable Mug
If possible, I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 10 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Support PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
Hannah Murray 4/23/2020 7:16 AMIt's important to take care of pollinators because recently their numbers have been in decline and they are a vital part of our ecosystem and agriculture. I learned that letting some vegetable plants go to seed in my garden can help feed pollinators! -
Hannah Murray 4/23/2020 6:42 AMFor my meal prep this week I made a vegetarian chickpea curry (I served it over rice and crispy tofu)
Here's the recipe!

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlife Research a Wild AnimalWhat interesting facts did you learn about the animal you researched? What are some of your favorite things about this animal?
Hannah Murray 4/22/2020 2:03 PMI researched New York Coyotes because I saw a coyote in my backyard yesterday, and it killed a woodchuck. I learned that coyotes also eat insects and berries. My favorite thing that I learned is that coyotes are monogamous and mate for life!
