Tessa's actions
Action Track: Earth Day Together!
Earth Day Action: Share Eco Tips
Through social media or on the Earth Day Ecochallenge feed, I will share my favorite environmentally friendly habit with my friends, even if it’s not an Earth Day action.
Wildlife
Research a Wild Animal
I will spend at least 20 minutes learning about a wild animal I find interesting, including their life cycle, habitat, ecosystem functions, and interactions with humans (if any!).
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 2 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Food
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 20 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 3 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Tessa Nania 4/20/2020 10:05 AMIt's difficult to check in every day and remember to complete challenges! I do feel a sense of accomplishment when I complete a few, but it's often in the back of my mind. I think being more intentional about it and choosing challenges I'm interested in will help increase the number of challenges I complete.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Tessa Nania 4/20/2020 10:03 AMIt's interesting to learn kind of the hierarchy of these three terms. Now I know that products with a "best by" date can often be consumed after this date, as this only indicates when the product is literally best by in terms of flavor and consistency, etc. "Sell by" seems almost useless to the consumer, and I think it should be paired with a best by or use by date. I also now know that "use by" is basically equivalent to and expiration date, and it should be to the consumer's discretion to consume food past that date. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Tessa Nania 4/02/2020 3:20 PMIt helps bring the power over food back to people. In the documentary I watched about a tribe in Minnesota, they said something along the lines of "it's about people producing food instead of corporations." I think it's a really powerful message, and it definitely got me thinking more about the processed foods and non-organic produce I put into my body.
