  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Forests Forest-Friendly Foods
How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

    Amira Nazar's avatar
    Amira Nazar 4/30/2020 2:20 PM
Very difficult because you still crave the overly processed foods and sugars but with time your body starts craving the healthy ones so it gets better!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Fresh Water Dishwasher Efficiency
How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

    Amira Nazar's avatar
    Amira Nazar 4/30/2020 2:19 PM
As simple as using only the necessary water and not letting it flow freely. We have smart faucets now that help with this now and many other water saving fixtures.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

These are not NYC prices I'm sure. Unfortunately NYC is way more expensive. Meal planning however does help with budgeting and avoiding food waste.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

The change from driving or taking the train to walking/riding a bike was the biggest savings personally.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Connect While Social Distancing
How does connecting with others help your own mental and emotional health? How can it help support others?

    Amira Nazar's avatar
    Amira Nazar 4/30/2020 2:10 PM
Human connection is key to our eco-system and knowing there is life out there helps support mine and others at the same time. It's a mutual need.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Amira Nazar's avatar
    Amira Nazar 4/30/2020 2:07 PM
I was told my energy usage is 10% less than average and 1.5% less than last month. I assume this has to do with me not using the hair dryer as often and letting it air dry.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

    Amira Nazar 4/16/2020 7:13 AM
I can't imagine a world where we're not able to appreciate the beauty of nature. In my opinion, the implications of being mostly indoors would be a less happy culture.
