Donovan's actions
Action Track: Building Resilience
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 180 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside that follows CDC guidelines for preventing disease spread.
Fresh Water
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 8 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Fresh Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Fresh Water
Dishwasher Efficiency
I will scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading into the dishwasher and only run the dishwasher when it’s full.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 2 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 2 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.
Participant Feed

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Donovan Petrey 4/13/2020 9:04 AMthe implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors is that you miss the beauty of the natural world. the world truly is a magical place and nature is the ultimate healer in my opinion. the rates for depression and other mental disorders are going to sky rocket if people are not going to ditch the screens and move to a more outdoor lifestyle -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFresh Water Use a Reusable Water BottleUsing the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed - both humans and wildlife - by this bottling process?
Donovan Petrey 4/13/2020 9:00 AMi can advocate for this by writing a letter or calling a congressman that is in charge of the area that i live in and voicing my poinion with facts that show that everyone is affected when this happens -
Donovan Petrey 4/13/2020 8:56 AMSo far i have been trying to spend more time each day out side. over the past week i have been able to achieve this goal. everyday i wake up and make a coffee and instead of drinking it inside in front of the tv i walk outside and drink it in the fresh air. another activity that i am trying to do mostly everyday is walk around my block daily. this route that i take is 4.5 miles and takes me anywhere from an hour to 2 hours depending on if i walk or run some of it. overall i believe that this is helping me deal with being stuck inside and at my house during this time -
Donovan Petrey 4/06/2020 2:52 PMI just started my challenge last week but i would have to say it is going very well! i have been going on walks everyday and today i walked 5 miles
