Angelique's actions
Climate
My Carbon Footprint
Use an online tool (links below) to calculate my carbon footprint and see what changes would make the most difference. Each calculator varies, but you'll typically need to gather: utility records, the flight history for the last year, and annual mileage and fuel efficiency of your vehicles.
Climate
Energy savings for the home office
Now that we're all working from home, energy bills could go up. Take some time to evaluate your home office space (even if it's the kitchen table!). Many utilities offer home efficiency kits (LED bulbs, shower heads, etc.) - visit your electric utilities website to see if they offer any of these solutions. The links below will also help you find energy efficiency opportunities in your own space.
Climate
Local Climate Issues
I will spend at least 10 minute(s) a day researching climate issues or climate solutions in my local area and share with others through my team feed, social media, or conversations with my peers.
Food
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
People
Connect While Social Distancing
I will connect with at least 2 person/people a day through phone call or video chat to support mine and other’s mental and emotional health during this challenging time.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate My Carbon FootprintWhat was most surprising to you about your carbon footprint?
Angelique Quinn 4/30/2020 9:34 AMThe most surprising thing about learning my carbon footprint was how important is is to understand how collective actions make a global impact. It's everything - efficiencies and mindfulness in your home, office, shopping and eating habits. There is still more that I can do to reduce my carbon footprint! -
Angelique Quinn 4/28/2020 11:10 AMThis year we are planting plants and flowers that attract bees and other natural pollinators. Milkweed, lilacs, black-eyed Susans...can't wait! -
Angelique Quinn 4/24/2020 6:53 AMHappy Arbor Day, all! I've always been obsessed with trees and just joined the Arbor Day Foundation. I chose to have them plant 10 trees in a national forest in need. Check out ways to celebrate Arbor Day during COVID: https://celebratearborday.com/ -
Angelique Quinn 4/23/2020 6:53 AMDid you ever think about what to do with your dryer lint? (And can you tell that I've had too much time on my hands with all this self-isolating?). I discovered that dryer lint is a biodegradable anti-weed garden treatment. Work it into the sections of your soil and the lint will form a protective layer that can prevent weeds seeds from taking root. Who would have thought?-
Joe Walter 4/23/2020 2:24 PMWOW, Angelique! Great tip, who would have thought it was useful for anything but being a campfire starter (which it is because it burns so quickly!) I had no idea it was biodegradable or inhibits weeds!! -
Courtney Groszhans 4/23/2020 11:29 AMWow! I did not know that! What a clever way to compost the dryer lint!

Angelique Quinn 4/21/2020 8:50 AMThe COVID crisis has had some positive influences on my life. In my reluctance to go to crowded supermarkets now, I've turned to local farms for meat and produce. All of them practice sustainability - products are non-GMO and hormone-free, and animals are humanely raised. I've also been exercising outdoors every day. Nature is the ultimate healer!-
Joe Walter 4/22/2020 5:40 AMThat is awesome Angelique!! We use a farm market nearby that supports several local farms. -
Courtney Groszhans 4/21/2020 11:08 AMThat is awesome! What a good idea.
